Sierra Nevada Corporation
Privately held aerospace and defense prime, known for Dream Chaser and rapid-prototyping systems
Overview
Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC) is a privately held aerospace, defense, and electronics prime contractor headquartered in Sparks, Nevada. Acquired by Fatih and Eren Ozmen in 1994, SNC has grown into a diversified systems integrator serving the U.S. military, NASA, and allied governments across more than 40 worldwide locations spanning the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, and Turkey.
The company operates across multiple business areas, including crewed and uncrewed aircraft modification, space systems, microelectronics, propulsion, command-and-control systems, and rapid-prototype defense technologies. SNC is best known in the commercial space sector for its Dream Chaser spaceplane, developed under NASA's Commercial Resupply Services-2 (CRS-2) contract, and historically for supplying components for Mars missions, satellite subsystems, and inflatable habitat technology prior to spinning related assets into its sister company, Sierra Space.
On the defense side, SNC has become a significant player in intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) aircraft modification, electronic warfare, and uncrewed systems, recently unveiling the BRAWLR counter-drone launcher and partnering on AEGIR uncrewed surface vessels. SNC's dual focus on space exploration hardware and national-security electronics positions it as a notable mid-sized prime contractor bridging legacy aerospace engineering with fast-moving defense innovation priorities.
Products & Vehicles
Dream Chaser (Tenacity)
Reusable lifting-body spaceplane designed for cargo resupply to the International Space Station under NASA's CRS-2 contract. Launch vehicle: ULA Vulcan Centaur. Payload to ISS: approximately 5,500 kg (pressurized/unpressurized combined, per program specifications). First orbital flight: not yet flown as of late 2026 reporting; planned for Q4 2026. Runway-landing capable, designed for reuse across multiple missions.
BRAWLR (Battery Revolving Adaptive Weapons Launcher)
Modular, rapidly reconfigurable counter-unmanned-aerial-systems (C-UAS) weapons launcher unveiled at AUSA in October 2025. Specifications (range, payload capacity) not publicly disclosed in detail.
AEGIR Uncrewed Surface Vessels
USV platform developed in partnership with shipbuilder Fairlead Integrated Maritime Solutions, announced July 2026, intended for domestic production to support U.S. Navy surface fleet requirements. Detailed specifications not publicly released.
Aircraft Modification & ISR Platforms
SNC performs modification, integration, and sustainment of special-mission and ISR aircraft for U.S. government and allied customers, including work under agreements such as the 2025 strategic partnership with Lufthansa Technik Defense for aircraft modification and support.

Roadmap
SNC is targeting a Q4 2026 launch of its uncrewed Dream Chaser spaceplane to low Earth orbit under NASA's CRS-2 cargo contract. The company is expanding its Dayton, Ohio Aviation Innovation and Technology Center, with two new hangars scheduled for completion in October 2025 and February 2026, bringing the campus to at least four dedicated facilities. On the defense side, SNC and Fairlead are moving to domestically produce AEGIR uncrewed surface vessels for the U.S. Navy, following a 2026 proposal. The company continues to pursue growth under its June 2025 strategic agreement with Lufthansa Technik Defense for aircraft modification and support work, and is scaling production of its BRAWLR counter-UAS launcher system following its 2025 debut.
