GISAT-1A, also designated EOS-05, is an Indian geostationary Earth observation satellite designed to provide continuous monitoring of the Indian subcontinent from an altitude of 36,000 kilometers. The mission will enable rapid detection and assessment of natural hazards, disaster management, and environmental monitoring. GISAT-1A represents a second attempt at this critical Earth science objective, replacing the original GISAT-1 satellite lost during a launch failure in August 2021.

The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) conducted the launch aboard the GSLV Mk II, India's most powerful operational launch vehicle, from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota on September 3, 2026. The GSLV Mk II is a three-stage vehicle capable of delivering heavy payloads to geostationary orbit, making it the appropriate choice for this mission profile.

The launch concluded successfully, placing GISAT-1A into its intended geostationary orbit. This achievement marks an important milestone for ISRO's Earth observation program and demonstrates the agency's capability to recover from prior setbacks. Once fully operational, the satellite will significantly enhance India's disaster response infrastructure and environmental monitoring capabilities across South Asia.
