Ariane 6
Ariane 6 is Europe's new-generation heavy-lift launch vehicle, designed to replace Ariane 5 with lower costs and increased flexibility. The modular design features a core stage powered by a Vulcain 2.1 engine burning liquid hydrogen and oxygen, complemented by P120C solid rocket boosters and a restartable Vinci upper stage engine.
Variants: Ariane 62 (two boosters) and Ariane 64 (four boosters). Payload to GTO: 4,500 kg (A62), 11,500 kg (A64). Payload to LEO: 10,350 kg (A62), 21,650 kg (A64). Payload to SSO: 4,500 kg (A62).
First flight: July 9, 2024 (Ariane 62). Ariane 64 first flight: February 12, 2026.
Status: Operational. Four Ariane 6 launches completed in 2025, with 6-8 missions planned for 2026. Success rate: 100% as of early 2026.
Vega C
Vega C is an upgraded light-lift launcher optimized for polar and sun-synchronous orbits. It features enlarged P120C and Zefiro 40 solid motors compared to the original Vega, plus the restartable AVUM+ upper stage.
Payload capacity: 2,300 kg to 700 km polar orbit; 800 kg to SSO.
First flight: July 13, 2022.
Status: Operational. Returned to flight in 2024 after a 2022 failure investigation. Three Vega C missions flown in 2025.
Ariane 5 (Retired)
Ariane 5 was Europe's workhorse heavy-lift vehicle from 1996 to 2023, primarily serving the geostationary telecommunications market. Final flight: July 5, 2023 (VA261). Total missions: 117. Success rate: 96.6%.

Arianespace was founded in 1980 as the world's first commercial space transportation company, established by CNES and European aerospace firms to market the Ariane launcher family. The company's first launch occurred on December 24, 1979 (Ariane 1), predating formal incorporation.
From 1996 to 2023, Ariane 5 served as the company's flagship vehicle, completing 117 missions with a 96.6% success rate. Notable Ariane 5 missions include deployment of the James Webb Space Telescope (2021), BepiColombo (2018), and dozens of telecommunications satellites in dual-manifest configurations. The vehicle dominated the commercial GTO market for over two decades.
Vega light launcher entered service in 2012, providing dedicated small-satellite access. Vega flew 21 missions before transitioning to the upgraded Vega C in 2022.
Ariane 6 inaugurated a new era with its successful first flight on July 9, 2024, following years of development. The vehicle demonstrated core capabilities including Vinci engine restarts. By December 2025, Arianespace had completed four Ariane 6 missions, including Galileo L14 navigation satellites and defense payloads.
In February 2026, Arianespace successfully launched the first Ariane 64 variant carrying 32 Amazon Project Kuiper satellites, marking entry into the LEO megaconstellation market. A second Kuiper mission followed in April 2026. The company has secured 18 launches for Amazon and multiple European institutional contracts for Galileo, Copernicus Sentinel, and PLATO missions.
As of January 2025, David Cavaillolès assumed the role of CEO, succeeding Stéphane Israël.

Arianespace is executing an aggressive production ramp-up for Ariane 6, targeting 6-8 launches in 2026, doubling the 2025 cadence of four flights. The 2026 manifest includes multiple Ariane 64 missions for Amazon's Project Kuiper constellation, with 18 total launches contracted (2 with Block I, 16 with upgraded P160C boosters).
Confirmed institutional missions include ESA's PLATO exoplanet observatory, Copernicus Sentinel-1D radar satellite, and the first two second-generation Galileo navigation satellites, all contracted in January 2025.
ArianeGroup is working toward sustained cadence increases beyond 2026, coordinating with European industrial partners to scale production. The company emphasizes maintaining guaranteed independent European access to space for defense, navigation, Earth observation, and climate missions while expanding commercial competitiveness in global connectivity markets.
