Rover
A wheeled robotic vehicle that travels across the surface of another world after being delivered there by a lander.
A rover exists to solve the sampling problem: a fixed lander can only study what it happens to land on, while a rover can go to the interesting rock. That mobility comes at a steep price in mass, power and autonomy - a rover must decide for itself where it is safe to drive, because commands take minutes to arrive and the terrain is unmapped at wheel scale. The scientific return is measured in kilometres travelled and sites sampled, not in the landing itself.
